This opportunity is part of the UHG Enterprise Architecture (EA) team to drive our application portfolio management best practices, Architecture Governance, and Architecture Review Board (ARB) across both UHC and Optum. This position also helps coordinate the Application PADU broadly across the UHC and Optum business segments and ensure the federated EA function is well coordinated and aligned. Ideal candidate should have strong relationship and organizational skills to track initiatives across a highly matrixed organization.

Primary Responsibilities:
Architecture Governance
  • Facilitate the Enterprise Architecture Governance process across Optum and UHC. This entails partnering line of business leaders to and working with program teams to review architecture
  • Prepare materials to ensure architecture reviews of all capital investments before enterprise capital committee discussions, facilitate weekly review sessions with Chief Architects, SMEs, and monthly sessions with CIOs
  • Enabling ARB process value realization delivered by facilitating cross functional, cross segment collaboration of architecture patterns and ensure appropriate reuse of existing assets. Communicating outcomes and ongoing results to leadership
Application Portfolio Management
  • Partner with architecture leaders across the enterprise to drive application rationalization through PADU process, supporting enterprise decommission program targets
  • Serve as point of contact for any Application portfolio assessment and help all Optum and UHC segment teams to meet MBO targets around Application rationalization via current year and year over year Application roadmaps, direct roadmap for Application portfolio reporting (YoY reporting and dashboard)
EA Operations, Reporting & Management
  • Effectively manage the EA Operations including various communications, setting cadence of key alignment points, maintaining the EA front-door and regular updates to organizational structures
  • Ability to escalate issues and work through solutions with enterprise stakeholders. Think like owner of startup and drive changes across the enterprise
  • Adhere to the established policies and procedures of the Company
  • Perform other duties, as necessary, to meet the MBOs as defined by leaders of the organization

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Systems Management, or related field
  • 5+ years of overall experience in technology organizations
  • 2+ years of experience in a large enterprise, leading or supporting enterprise architecture or engineering functions
  • Experience leading information discovery sessions with a variety of business and technology stakeholders
  • Experience working with productivity tools (e.g. MS Office suite), architecture modeling tools (e.g. Alfabet, ASK) and related modeling languages (e.g. ArchiMate 3.0, UML)
  • Experience with large-scale (multi-domain, multi-application) IT system integration and architecture solutions
  • Software Development team experience working with engineers implementing technical capability, architecture using modern software engineering and product development methodologies and tools including but not limited to Agile, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery and DevOps
  • Ability to understand the big picture before getting into details

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience developing in modern full stack applications, ideally familiar with modern engineering practices (e.g., using open-source languages, cloud native development)
  • 2+ years of overall IT architectural experience (e.g. enterprise, business, solution, information)
  • 2+ years of solution architecture systems integration experience including experience working as a software and integration architect
  • Experience working in the healthcare sector / Knowledge of the health care industry
  • Experience leading architect efforts or managing a team of architects
  • Experience working with vendors in system selection, cost negotiation, and the development of service level agreements
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technical configurations, technologies, and processing environments
  • Solid mental agility and critical thinking/analytical skills, and be adaptable to an ever-changing environment
  • Solid presentation skills with ability to communicate EA vision across different levels in the enterprise
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation
  • Excellent time management, communication, decision making, and presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, is organized, has good time management skills, is focused, and has strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, is a team player, be proactive, a self-starter and is highly motivated

Colorado Residents Only:
The salary range for Colorado residents is $79,700 to $142,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. As of the date of this posting, In addition to your salary, UHG offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements: Health, dental, and vision plans; wellness program; flexible spending accounts; paid parking or public transportation costs; 401(k) retirement plan; employee stock purchase plan; life insurance, short-term disability insurance, and long-term disability insurance; business travel accident insurance; Employee Assistance Program; PTO; and employee-paid critical illness and accident insurance.
