Job Description Summary The leader of the DevOps Platform Team works to achieve Nationwide’s long-term vision of customer success by defining the DevOps technology vision, collaborating with leadership to develop DevOps strategies, and driving initiatives that build momentum towards Nationwide’s common goals across Nationwide’s 2,000+ applications. The leader holds the bottom-line responsibility to create, implement, and operate a CTO/SDS/IRM strategy for over 50 DevOps applications and tools. Ideally, this leader will succeed with a lean team, mobilized by automation and self-service strategies.
The operational strategy developed and maintained by the DevOps Platform leader will support current data center requirements and look ahead to future cloud capabilities. The team leader’s forward-thinking approach will consider the technical implications of new capabilities, cost management, and potential vendor changes.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Works across the enterprise--from gathering the feedback of thousands of users to working with high-level IT executives in SDS, SMS, BSA, Cloud, IT Operations, IRM, Architecture/CTO, and Hosting. By maintaining visibility and synergy across the business, the DevOps team leader will ensure that the DevOps tool strategy aligns with Nationwide’s overall technical strategy. The team leader will successfully create a tools strategy that is visible to all stakeholders, auditable, and easy to use. The DevOps Platform team leader participates in and lead executive sessions, taking ownership of the value/speed of our current tools and suggesting potential new tools that will work to the company’s advantage. The team leader is capable of making tool/capability decisions that impact thousands of developers across all BSAs and SDS lines.
Financial Responsibility and Scope
Total resources of approximately 35-40 FTEs and 5 contractors. Estimating 2020 Operational labor budget at $5M and non-labor estimating at $10M (DevOps Tools, Splunk, NR). Managing close to 50 tools and additional bots that function as applications.

- Strategy development and input to CTO-level decisions on capability needed, tool validation, tool procurement (partnered with SMS), and operational excellence of tools in production
