In this role, the CTO, Optum Store joins a team that is dedicated to leveraging data for personalized care and critical decision making so care can be delivered when and where people need it most.


Reporting to the SVP, Optum Experience, the CTO, Optum Store will serve as a key leader for the B2C eCommerce experience called Optum Store. This role will work closely with teams across Optum Technology and the Optum business to build a platform that meets our customers how and where they want to be met.


In this newly created leadership role, you will serve as the technical leader for a focused team that will need to be built and continue to grow, to ensure we drive a shift to an engineering culture. You will be accountable for the end-to-end Optum Store (eCommerce) technology capability. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Driving technical strategy and direction
  • Owning software engineering, reliability engineering, system/solution/application architecture, dev/ops, end to end technology service and best practice adoption
  • Providing leadership for a large technical team, with a focus on talent management, employee engagement and growing /developing the team
  • Partnering with all parts of Optum Technology to develop, deliver and support high quality software products; and leverage technical contribution/components to the platform
  • Transforming team to a DevOps model / culture
  • Driving Agile best practices across stakeholders
  • Participating in the creation of technology roadmaps and architecture guidelines
  • Incorporating existing enterprise technology standards and capabilities into solutions as applicable
  • Leveraging metrics and best practices to drive continuous improvement/transformation
  • Creating and managing to a financial plan

Required Qualifications:


  • 15 + years of technology leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success leveraging technology to meet business objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with C-level stakeholders (business and technology) and external clients
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with executives and key business partners to drive a change agenda
  • Experience leading global technology teams and work with joint-development partnerships
  • Track record of delivering high quality technology solutions using Agile methodology
  • Experience developing technology platforms and applicable operating models
  • Proven end-to-end technical product life-cycle management for applications and platforms
  • Broad technology experience, including Digital solutions
  • Experience deploying and supporting highly scalable technology solutions
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities and an enterprise-wide perspective
  • Experience working in a large, global, matrixed environment
  • High level of emotional intelligence
  • Outstanding collaboration abilities
  • Strong influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Track record of delivering business results
  • eCommerce, Java-based solutions background


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience moving from legacy platforms to open source and/or cloud-based
  • Success driving a shift to a DevOps / Agile delivery model
  • Healthcare industry experiences
  • HIPAA data privacy and security knowledge
  • Direct to consumer solution experience

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $169,500 to $322,500.
