Understand customers' overall cloud portfolio, IT and business priorities, and success measures to design implementation architectures and scalable cloud solutions leveraging expertise in cloud infrastructure solutions (Windows and Linux IaaS, SAP, VMware, BCDR, Security, Management, Storage, Networking, OSS, HPC, containers and Infra as a code technologies).

Apply technical knowledge and customer insights to create a migration and modernization roadmap with customers using the Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF). Architect solutions to meet business and IT needs, ensuring technical viability of new projects and successful deployments, while orchestrating key resources and infusing key Infrastructure technologies (e.g. Windows and Linux IaaS, Security, Networking, etc.), and Application Development and DevOps technologies (e.g. App Service, containers, serverless, cloud native, etc.) as appropriate

Collaborate with other Cloud Solution Architects and MS stakeholders in developing complex end-to-end Enterprise solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform.

Ensure all solutions leverage the design and operations guidance according to the Well-Architected framework across all pillars, including performance efficiency, security, operational excellence, reliability, and cost optimization

Run Architectural Design Sessions to build plan for implementing solution –governing design in line with customer business goals and their technical environment. Outcome is consensus on solution design and next steps toward production. Use CAF Landing Zones to rapidly prototype and deliver proof-of-concepts that accelerate production deployment

Develop deep relationships with key customer IT decision makers, who drive long-term cloud adoption within their company to enable them to be cloud advocates

Be the Voice of the Customer; Share insights and best practices, and connect with Engineering teams to remove blockers

Troubleshoot technical issues to prove the value of implementation of Azure technologies

Assess the customer knowledge of Azure platform and overall cloud readiness to support customers through a structured learning plan and ensure delivery through partners · Collaborate with others in developing complex end-to-end Enterprise solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform

Maintain technical skills and knowledge of market trends and competitive insights; collaborate and share with the technical community · Be an Azure Platform evangelist with customers, partners and external communities.

Build and grow developer communities by driving activities including OpenHacks, Workshops

A CSA within the Azure Customer Architecture & Engineering team will be responsible for:
  • Customer success on the Azure platform with a special focus on designing and helping customers build production applications and reduce technical risks and debts
  • Providing a positive impact to the strategic direction of Azure engineering teams
  • Curate and produce high quality guidance for our internal and external communities and customers
  • Mentorship and development of technical delivery personnel within the Customer Success organization
Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in technology solutions, practice development, architecture, consulting, and/or cloud/infrastructure technologies
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in technology solutions, practice development, architecture, consulting, and/or cloud/infrastructure technologies
  • OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have a breadth of knowledge across cloud computing domains and experience on Azure, as well as expert level hands-on experience in topics from one or more of the technical domains below:
Enterprise Scale Landing Zones Well-Architected Framework
Core Infrastructure * 7+ years of experience with architectural patterns and anti-patterns for resiliency and geo-availability
  • 5+ years of experience with Infrastructure-as-Code to build, test and deploy infrastructure for application environments
  • Modelling cloud infrastructure based on application scale and capacity needs, providing data-driven recommendations to optimize application architecture and performance
  • Cloud networking and hybrid connectivity with expertise in BGP and SD-WAN solutions as well as Azure networking services such as Express Route
  • Application migrations for scenarios involving components such as Windows/Linux VMs, databases, NFS/SMB file shares, and VDI
  • Management, monitoring and operations at-scale, preferably in a cloud environment
  • Identity and access control with experience administering B2B and B2C applications as well as a working knowledge of Azure AD
  • Security and governance with a strong proficiency in defining and modelling security baselines and managing security posture
  • Running microservices and container-based workloads in production.
  • CNCF projects and open source technologies Application Development
  • Engineering distributed applications within architectural scenarios such as Web and IoT
  • Programming languages such as C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Node.js, JSON, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails, Pig/Hive (one or more)
  • Designing scalable solutions on cloud platforms with focus on performance and resiliency, utilizing microservices architectures
  • Application design patterns, and anti-patterns, such as MVC, CQRS and/or SAGA
  • Interacting with and querying databases and/or NoSQL datastores
  • Application monitoring and end to end telemetry
  • Containers for packaging application deployment units and interacting with container-orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, Service Fabric, Cloud Foundry
  • Defining CI/CD pipelines to automate test and release across different application environments using concepts such as Blue/Green and Canary deployments and related technologies (e.g. Jenkins, Spinnaker, Azure for DevOps, Chef, Puppet)
  • Source code management using Git or other source control technologies such as TFS
  • Open source technologies and frameworks
Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly, and understand relevant cloud trends required

Certification in one or more of the following technologies preferred: Azure, Networking, Containers

The position location is based in US with a need to be in Redmond WA regularly to engage directly with the broader team and Azure engineering teams. There will be up to 50% travel in Americas as the Azure Customer Engineer is expected to work directly with customers on site when travel restrictions are lifted.

The salary for this role in the state of Colorado is between $125,000 and $187,700.

At Microsoft, certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role
