Role description:
The Vivint Release Engineering team is looking for an enthusiastic Build and Release Engineer to own and maintain the build, release, and deployment processes and infrastructure for our smart home platform. In addition, the Build and Release Engineer will be responsible for investigating, designing, and implementing scripts and tools that improve the overall build and release process while adding observability and repeatability.
As a Build and Release Engineer, you will also be working with Linux operating systems, contributing and reviewing the software for the build architecture, creating and improving the automation process, and researching solutions to issues as identified by the software engineering teams. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, an eagerness to learn are essential in this role.

Role description:

Responsibilities
- Improve and maintain the existing build infrastructure.
- Own the build and release process for the Vivint Smart Home platform.
- Troubleshoot and debug build issues with a focus on resolving problems quickly with minimal impact to developers and QA.
- Design and implement scripts, tools, and automated processes to improve developer productivity and contribute ideas to continuously improve the build and release system.
- Manage processes, systems and infrastructure, leveraging best practices and security.
- Monitor and manage service reliability, availability, and performance.
- Support and troubleshoot Linux build systems as well as Jenkins.
- 0 - 3 years of software development experience. Recent grads welcome.
- Strong understanding and demonstratable experience with Python.
- Experience with build and release tools such as Jenkins.
- Experience with Linux package creation and distributions such as Yocto.
- An understanding of Linux server and networking architecture.
- Familiar with source management tools such as git and Bitbucket/GitLab.
- Initiative for providing leadership and taking ownership.
- A pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
- Strong teamwork and collaborative skills
- Flexibility in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
- Containerization and AWS cloud experience a plus.
