Position: DevOps Engineer
Reporting to: VP, IT Operations
Location: Atlanta (Hybrid – WFH/Office)
The Role
The DevOps Engineer is part of a small and agile team of cloud engineers provisioning and supporting cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines in support of the US portfolio of custom applications. You are motivated by applying rigorous engineering and software development practices to infrastructure as code in the public cloud. The DevOps Engineer will help enhance the culture and practices of a tightly knit team that will play a key role in taking the organization into the future.

Hiscox USA was established in 2006 to focus on the needs underserved and specialty commercial clients via both the regional broker and direct distribution channels and is today the fastest-growing business unit within the Hiscox Group. Today, Hiscox USA has a talent force of about 400 employees mostly operating out of 6 major cities - New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Hiscox USA offers a broad portfolio of commercial products, including technology, cyber & data risk, multiple professional liability lines, media, entertainment, management liability, crime, kidnap & ransom, commercial property and terrorism.
About the IT Team
The Hiscox USA IT team is currently 80 people strong and growing. We are primarily located in Atlanta, Georgia. Globally, Hiscox IT has a federated model with centralization where it counts. Each of our Business Units have a Head of IT who is responsible for both the operational support and change delivery within the Business Unit. The Heads of IT report to a Group CIO to ensure consistency where it matters. All Business Units are supported by centralized teams including CTO, IT management Operations, Enterprise Applications and IT Services.
Hiscox USA Software Delivery team is made up of over 40 professionals that develop and test applications for the US business.

What you’ll be doing:
- Spend time with a variety of teams to understand and steer the current and desired state
- Design, build, and operate core infrastructure components within the application portfolio
- Act as a consistent practitioner and proponent of agile and rigorous engineering practices
- Constantly learn about how to effectively operate a regulated enterprise in a public cloud
- Consistently engage with and support your team
Essential Skills:
- Understanding of IaC and CI/CD workflows including tooling such as Terraform, Puppet, and Bamboo
- Demonstrable experience with one programming language with a grasp of software development practices
- Experience running workloads in Azure
- Familiarity with relational database administration and data management
- Ability to learn new technology and practices quickly
- 2+ years of appropriate IT industry experience focused on software development and operations
- Experience with Azure
- Experience with Terraform and Puppet
- Experience in financial, insurance, or other regulated industries
- Experience with business-critical applications and large scale customer facing websites
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related area
