Job Description
We are world-class, highly technical & dynamic team of engineers that delivers wide portfolio of VMware's internal services, multiple hyper-converged, cloud environments and humongous, heterogeneous infrastructure. The SRE's (Site Reliability Engineers) ensure that our services meet the needs of our customers with the desired levels of reliability, performance and availability by developing continuous improvements, tools and automations. We are hiring additional SRE's to our global and distributed (work from anywhere) Engineering Services team
Roles & Responsibilities:
Maintain high levels of service availability as defined by service SLO/SLAs. This includes minimizing/reducing MTTA, MTTR, and overall number of service incidents.
Identify tasks, workflows, and other processes that would benefit from automation and reliably automate those processes. Whenever appropriate, tenant workflows should be self-service to the tenant.
Develop automation to execute run books and other remediations needed to support self-healing Cloud platform and infrastructure.
Ensure that services and underlying systems are properly monitored and have adequate observability. This includes identifying and monitoring proper KPIs to ensure service health, minimizing MTTA and MTTR.
Ensure that any changes to the services and underlying system are well understood, including dependent services, and appropriately tested.
Learn all the different components within the Calatrava architecture, how those components work, how to diagnose and troubleshoot to quickly isolate and determine the root cause of a problem to the appropriate component.
Learn how to install, configure, deploy, update, and patch each of the components of the Kubernetes infrastructure on vSphere
Requirements:
General programming knowledge - object and functional oriented principles, data structures, algorithms, design patterns, memory management, etc.
Proficiency with at least one of the following high-level programming languages (Python, Java, Go)
Proficient at scripting with PowerCLI/Bash
Proficient in Linux/Unix based systems
Understanding in network basics - TCP/IP concepts, common protocols like DHCP and DNS, intermediate routing & switching
Understanding of virtualization & HCI concepts.
Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Terraform or Salt
Proficiency with K8S in preferred, but not a necessity ( willing to teach the right candidate
Systematic problem-solving approach
Additional desired experience:
Experience with vSphere with Tanzu
Experience with containers and container orchestrators - Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos
Knowledge in CI/CD pipelines
Knowledge and understanding of enterprise IT processes and ITI
