Job Summary


Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Services, the DevOps Engineer is responsible for bridging the gaps across the Enterprise Services team with a thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle, automation and integration procedures, and systems operations including servers and networks.

The DevOps Engineer must be able to assume various roles. As a software developer, they are responsible for building and customizing software solutions. As an automation expert, they will use tools to automate repetitive functions and reporting requirements. As an analyst, they are responsible for identifying opportunities to improve process efficiency and functionality across enterprise solutions. And as a systems and network support specialist, they will continually monitor the health and security of Enterprise Services’ servers and networks to ensure optimal performance and security. The DevOps Engineer works collaboratively with members of the Office of Information Technology and all of the Carey community to achieve a technology environment that is user-focused, flexible, cost-effective, and secure.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the University in implementing the statement of purpose
  • Assist the University in implementing the strategic technology plan
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor systems-related scripts, SSIS Packages, software products, systems integration solutions, and automated processes
  • Assist with the deployment and maintenance of servers including, but not limited to: Virtual server infrastructure, Active Directory services, DHCP/DNS services, and backup solutions
  • Assist with Enterprise Services’ team planning and day-to-day operations
  • Provide specialized on-site support for remote campuses, as needed
  • Maintain currency with technology trends applicable to higher education
  • Collaborate with and support team members and staff in other administrative offices and academic units
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Enterprise Services and Chief Information Officer
Required Qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including documentation and training for end-users and students
  • Possess strong time management and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Be proactive in providing superior customer service to staff and students
  • Have a strong desire to analyze, diagnose, and address highly complex technical issues while being flexible and maintaining critical thinking and excellent communication under pressure
  • Have experience with production systems administration on Windows-based servers both on-premises and in-cloud
  • In-depth knowledge of networking (TCP/UDP ports, firewalls, DNS, IPv4/6, etc.)
  • Experience with version control systems
  • Familiarity with programming/development technology including but not limited to XML, SSIS, ASP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, VBS, and PowerShell
  • Foundational Knowledge of PC Desktop/Workstations
  • Experience with remote support products
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and deploying Active Directory systems
  • Familiarity with Enterprise wireless networking environments
  • Experience with Office 365 environment management
  • Experience with third-party API systems and integrations
  • Graduation from the 2-year technical program, or earned BS in a technology-related field
Physical Demands
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment including a computer
  • Must have the vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person, over the telephone, and via video conferencing systems and applications
  • Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Must have strength and agility to move files, paper boxes, and minor office equipment
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
  • Must have the ability to climb and work from ladders
