Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs SQL Server and Oracle database administration on premise and in cloud environments. Performs requirements gathering and analysis, business procedure analysis and recommendation, data dictionary creation, development of conceptual and logical data models, database design and creation, database migrations, database schema object creation and modification, testing and deployment of applications, and functions in support of the Database and DevOps teams as part of the Software Development Life Cycle for each system under the direction of senior database staff. Completes documentation of existing and new database designs as directed by senior database staff. Completes as directed, or assists senior database staff in maintaining requisite documentation on database systems and processes as well as project engagements. Develop, modify, and tune PL/SQL packages, and T-SQL queries. Work closely with the Systems, DevOps, and Project teams to continuously improve the design, performance, reliability, scalability, security and architecture of the SQL and Oracle databases.

Assists senior database staff, or, if possible, functions autonomously for the following: performing database monitoring and tuning; diagnosing database performance issues; researching, proposing and implementing solutions; analyzing query execution plans and index utilization to optimize performance; performing database backup validations and restores as required; performing data exports and imports as required; cloning production databases for refresh of development environments as requested; managing jobs and job schedulers as needed; automating common management tasks using scripting or programming language; enforcing database security and confidentiality policies for user and data administration.

Supports database and server team peers: assists with maintaining change logs for SQL, database configuration updates, and changes for all database servers. Maintains change logs for user accounts and ensures security standards are implemented. Assists, or if possible operates autonomously, in providing monthly database performance reports and generating baseline statistics. Analyzes database systems performance, capacity trends, and availability to ensure SLA compliance. Performs scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours. Provides 24x7 team support for critical production systems. Receives basic cross-training to serve as backup to the Oracle and SQL Server systems administrators.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge and skill in data analysis techniques, routine database administration, requirements gathering and analysis, documentation, data modelling, logical and physical database design, software development fundamentals and the software development life cycle, database security management, database performance tuning, query performance tuning and optimization, backup and restore scenarios, database upgrade and patching, diagnostics and troubleshooting, PL/SQL packages and T-SQL query, utilizing Oracle, SQL Server and Azure SQL databases.

Critical thinker with strong time-management, interpersonal, and communication skills.

This position is designated to serve in an on-call status. When activated, the incumbent must respond to the call within 15 minutes and if necessary, arrive on-site within 1 hr.
