This can be a telework/remote (from anywhere in Utah) position with some in office, located at the Multi Agency State Office Building 195 N 1950 W SLC, Utah.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience managing information technology (IT) personnel and projects, with an emphasis on public cloud migration, IT infrastructure or application development. This position will manage a team of 7 employees while managing IT projects that have both agency and state-wide impact with significant complexity. You will develop requirements, identify stakeholders and their needs; build and define project plans; establish staffing, resources and management support; establish the project's critical path, resource loading, and leveling; estimate project costs and time requirements; manage change and keep the project on course and schedule; follow established PMO processes; monitor work progress; and maintain on-going status reporting. The chosen candidate will ensure the hardware and software meet the agency's security requirements; create and coordinate testing plans, including accessibility testing.

Example of Duties

Primary Duties


Manage a team of project managers, database administrators and cloud architects as they work with application development and system operations teams to implement, migrate, and maintain IT systems and applications.

Plan and coordinate with application teams to automate development, quality assurance, and deployment processes.

Work with business and IT teams to store, manage, and protect critical IT system data.

Ensure that security and compliance processes are followed and completed for new and existing IT systems.

Conduct regular staff meetings with employees to facilitate communication.

Conduct necessary performance improvement discussions with staff and address employee concerns.

Ensure critical systems and support functions are covered during normal working hours.

Plan and deliver services in accordance with the agency prioritized IT Plan.

Identify and manage issues that may arise in the support delivery process to ensure Service Level Agreements are met.

Manage projects through the entire project life cycle.

Facilitate meetings which include stakeholders from multiple levels and functions.

Work closely with the customer to capture product requirements/user stories.

Create and maintain project documentation throughout the entire project.

Maintain on-going status reports of projects.

Monitor project budget including expenditures and projections.

Meet and confer with management, users, and contract providers to resolve problems and coordinate services.

Actively contribute to problem resolutions; approve system changes and establish project priorities.

Coordinates projects and ensures adequate administrative controls, quality, and procedural efficiencies.

Sets goals, establishes priorities, manages resources, develops concepts and approaches, reviews projects progress and results; makes project management decisions.

Provides technical assistance on agency issues, services, program(s), and/or computer hardware and software, etc.

Other tasks as assigned.

Excellent customer service and group presentation skills

Make decisions or solve problems by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions

Establish objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve these objectives

Have a general understanding of information technologies including cloud computing, hosting services, and application development. Preference will be given to those with a general knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Manage projects through the Software Development Life Cycle.

Manage costs of resources and budget of projects.

Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally

Communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing

Coordinate the tasks of people, groups and/or organization(s), including follow up on task assignments

Project management

Principles, theories and practices of meeting management; quality management; diversity management; conflict management; project management and administrative management

Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to change
