Job Description

The Opportunity


We’re looking for an experienced, knowledgeable Senior API Technical Writer to join our team. We need someone who has a passion for technical writing, can read code, and has a proven ability to write for a developer audience. Above all, we need someone who isn’t afraid to jump right in and take the initiative. This person will work closely with multiple agile teams to edit and create consistent API documentation, from API references to getting started topic, that are engaging and easy to understand.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the initiative to investigate API documentation tools and processes.
  • Work with developers and other subject matter experts to create user developer documentation, including API references, sample code, getting started guides, and tutorials.
  • Support the Documentation team with writing and editing when needed.
Qualifications
  • You have 5+ years’ experience creating high-quality content for a developer audience, including API reference topics, developer guides, and other content.
  • You have a background in or knowledge of coding.
  • You have experience with REST APIs, Git, Agile environments, Confluence, and Jira, Markdown, and Madcap Flare or similar tools.
  • You have the aptitude and willingness to learn the nuances of a complicated domain. We don’t expect you to know everything right away. We reserve a portion of our working time to continuous learning. And people on the team are generous in sharing their expertise with each other.
  • You’re intrinsically motivated and love a challenge.
  • You have a proven ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • You’re friendly and approachable. People want to work with you because they can freely contribute ideas and because you are fun to work with.
  • You’re able to diplomatically synthesize multiple viewpoints from a variety of stakeholders when making decisions.
  • You’re located in Atlanta or can work remotely in a city in the Southeast, Southwest, or Midwest regions of the US.
  • You can provide a portfolio or link to your work.
Your First Three Months
  • Month 1: You’ll be in “listen and learn” mode. You’ll meet many people throughout the company to better understand company culture. You’ll learn about our products, the software testing lingo and our users. You’ll also learn about different API tools and our current API documentation tools and processes.
  • Month 2: You’ll be working with a cross-functional product, development, and documentation team to propose a create a strategy for API documentation and getting approval from stakeholders.
  • Month 3: You’ll start to implement the API documentation strategy and work with on developer documentation for cloud-based product teams.
