We are looking for a creative senior DevOps engineer to manage the transition between project planning and web application deployment. In this role, your duties will include supervising developers, developing communication products and configuring systems, and performing diagnostic tests throughout the stages of development. You will also be required to forecast project timelines and cost. The Senior DevOps Engineer will be responsible for mentoring and teaching existing team members. As such, the ideal candidate must have experience clearly explaining solutions to complex problems and demonstrate the ability to lead, coach, and support the rest of the team. You are passionate about building accessible products and proactively seek opportunities for thought leadership in the field.

Responsibilities: (you’ll be:)
  • Review and sign off on code quality and standards for dev tasks and deliverables
  • Consult with client and internal corporate teams on the security and infrastructure needs
  • Determine and oversee development priorities and resources, including setting quarterly team goals Work closely with project managers and directors to estimate timeline and level of effort for dev tasks
  • Build the development team capabilities, including coaching and mentoring other developers
  • Design and implement development workflows, including unit testing, regression testing, static code analysis, build and deployment processes
  • Respond to security vulnerabilities or CVEs — assess impact, recommend remediation, and implement
  • Grow application monitoring and evaluation tool monitoring capabilities
  • Standing up new environments and ensuring consistency with existing environments
  • Configuring and maintaining backups so systems can be restored quickly in case of failures.
  • Solving problems in ways that drive towards simplicity of architecture and operations
Requirements: (What we hope you'll bring:)
  • Ability to travel (1-2 times per year to DC) Ability to pass a Tier 4 U.S. federal government investigation to obtain U.S. government credentials/badge.
  • Familiarity with a broad portfolio of AWS infrastructure tools (S3, EC2, CloudFront, Route 53) and experience with cloud infrastructure management and automation technologies (Selenium, Chef, Puppet)
  • Experience working with Apache Solr and Apache Zookeeper
  • Scripting (shell, JS, python) skills for monitoring and automation
  • Experience optimizing applications and databases, both stand-alone and in distributed systems to maximize performance
  • Passionate understanding of and commitment to building accessible products
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including giving and receiving feedback and expressing complex ideas clearly and succinctly
Preferred
  • Recently active Federal government credentials / badge
  • Experience with Drupal (9+) and WordPress installations
  • Experience with SQL scripting and SQL command line operations
