American Express is entering into a technology transformation phase driven by opportunities to modernize legacy platforms and explore modern software to be on the leading edge of payment card industry. This individual will architect cutting-edge strategies for the payment process using latest computing techniques driving proof of concepts with strong hands-on experience. We expect the individual to be innovative and energetic with strong communications skills to adopt the concepts into production.

What you will be working on:
- Work through the full life cycle of DevOps projects: from requirements gathering through white-boarding, infrastructure automation design, tool selection, system design, coding, delivery, support and enhancements.
- Work as a hands-on member of the Infrastructure team for the DevOps roadmap for American Express IT Infrastructure for cloud, infrastructure and application automation.
- Work directly and collaboratively with engineering teams, architects to deliver infrastructure automation solutions.
- Responsible for design, implementation and maintenance of cloud-based systems including administration, performance tuning, optimization, scripting and automation.
- Work as an active participant in an Agile development environment.
- Work to oversee, design, implement, and manage DevOps capabilities using CI/CD toolsets and automation.
- Closely collaborate with software engineers to make it easy for them to roll out new code and test new features.
- Partner closely across engineering and service Operations teams to establish best practice, improve deployment methodology and ensure robust back out/ contingency plans.
- Drive continuous improvement to reduce MTTR (Mean Time to Recovery) and MTTD (Mean Time to Detection) on production impacts. Proactively address gaps with stability issues across infrastructure environment.
- Establish application monitoring KPIs to measure performance and identify system bottlenecks/failure points.
- Partner closely with engineering and service operations teams to enable a robust and quality driven, development and production delivery environment.
- Perform technical aspects of software development for assigned applications including design, developing prototypes, and coding assignments
- Function as a leader on an agile team by contributing to software builds through consistent development practices (tools, common components, and documentation)
- Lead code reviews and automated testing
- Debug software components and identify code defects for remediation
- Leads the deployment, support, and monitoring of software across test, integration, and production environments.
- Automate deployments in test or production environments
- Automatically scale applications based on demand projections
- Demonstrate increased self-reliance to achieve team goals
- Influence team members with creative changes and improvements by challenging status quo and demonstrating risk taking
- Be a productivity multiplier for your team by analyzing your work flow and contributing to enable the team to be more effective, productive, and demonstrating faster and stronger results.
- Mentor and guide junior team members to success within the team
- Wide breath of engineering experience
- Proven experience leading teams of engineers
- Hands-on expertise with application design, software development, and automated testing
- Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related experience required; advanced degree preferred
