We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to be a key full-stack contributor to our internal and customer-facing web applications. The individual filling this position will collaborate with product owners and multidisciplinary engineering teams to analyze, develop, and maintain the software that supports our autonomous satellite operations. As an early contributor, they will play a key role in Umbra’s efforts toward redefining how space radar data is consumed. This position can be located in the Austin, TX or Fully Remote. Remote candidates must reside in CA, TX, CO, DC, MA, VA, NY, AZ, PA, MD.

Key Responsibilities
- Build, test, and maintain applications that run our satellites and tackle a variety of problems, including automating spacecraft operations, mission scheduling, command and telemetry pipeline, mission data pipeline, and anomaly response… to name a few
- Provide key software architecture expertise to cross-functional engineering and product teams
- Help establish and adhere to DevOps practices that ensure that customer and satellite-operational needs are met with quality and performance
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience in relevant discipline
- 5 - 7 years of professional experience developing highly available web services with server-side scripting languages, preferably TypeScript/Node, Go, Python, Scala
- 3 - 5 years of experience designing, developing, testing intuitive and well documented commercial RESTful API
- Demonstrated foundational understanding of software architecture, event-driven micro-services, interface design, and automated testing patterns
- 2 - 3 years of professional experience with modern SPA development frameworks/libraries, preferably React
- 2+ years of professional experience developing automated build and test pipelines in a CI/CD lifecycle
- Strong understanding of HTML and CSS
- Experience with database-backed applications and relational database concepts, preferably Postgres
- Solid understanding of cloud and application security, access control, and identity management
- Good communications skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and willingness to learn new skills and technology
- Experience designing and documenting commercial APIs with Swagger/OpenAPI
- Experience developing Kubernetes/Docker containerized services
- Strong understanding of infrastructure monitoring principles, best practices, and implementation
- Experience building custom GIS applications, STAC, or other imagery catalog APIs
- Experience with Nodejs web service frameworks, e.g. Express, Nestjs
- Experience with GIS, spatiotemporal assets, or geospatial mapping tools, e.g. Cesium, Mapbox, WebGL
