IFG is looking for a passionate and versatile Software Development Engineer who will play an integral role in developing new software products from the ground up as well as enhancing existing applications. You will be involved in all aspects of the software development process.

The Software Development Engineer position is a full-time position in the Information Technology (IT) Department and will report to the DevOps Manager.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, hours depending upon need.

Essential Functions:
  • Analyze, design, develop, and document new or enhanced software programs.
  • Be responsible for assuring the delivery of high-quality software by enforcing coding standards and developing unit and functional test, based on industry best practices
  • Maintains software through enhancements, patching issues and deployment
  • Routinely assigned deliverables on various technical projects and works independently as well as part of a team.
  • Contributes to the team to further share knowledge and processes and ensures lessons learned are documented.
  • Design, troubleshoot, maintain, upgrade and audit the optimization software that reports and processes data related to the lumber manufacturing industry
  • Work directly with OEMs that develop application software for scanning and optimization
  • Provide technical support and training for users
  • Maintain governmental compliance and participate in audits as needed
  • Conduct technical evaluations on new products and provides recommendations
  • Keep up to date on latest technologies and trends.
  • Participates in the development of project proposals with emphasis on cost/benefits
  • Assist IT team with improvements to enhance functionality and service to users
  • Travel between sites and after hours support services may be required.
  • Willingness to learn and perform other duties as assign
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Two years of software development, troubleshooting and application design experience --OR--
  • Combination of post-secondary technical training with knowledge of Java, Python, C/C++, C#, R, development and implementation.
  • Ability to show programming and explain logic.
  • Experience in object-oriented programming.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • 4+ years’ experience in software development such as Java, Python, C/C++, C#, R
  • Proficiency in object-oriented design
  • Experience in Android development in Kotlin
  • Experience in SQL Server or other databases
  • Experience in any versioning systems such as Git, Mercurial, SVN
  • Understanding of software engineering processes and best practices
  • Experience in Inductive Automation’s Ignition framework
  • Experience in AI/Machine Learning and optimization modeling
Required Skills:
  • Skilled in organizing and expressing ideas effectively in oral and written communication
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and time-management skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to maintain software integrity
  • Experience with fundamental algorithms/data structures
  • Follow through on short-term and long-term projects
  • Must be capable of following strict policies and procedures
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation on processes and standards
  • Physically perform the essential functions of the job
Tools & Equipment Used:

Servers, logging applications, event logs, resource monitoring, computer, tablets, telephone, etc.

Work Environment:

Work is performed both in an office and manufacturing environment while sitting or standing at a desk or computer. Physical exertion may be required to lift or move equipment.

Physical Requirements:

Move safely, quickly, and perform duties with repetitious movement. Sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, twist, push and pull, maintain balance, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distances, and climb stairs. Must be able to tolerate all weather elements, loud conditions, vibrations and airborne particles (sawdust).
