- Define systems’ reliability goals via Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
- Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain spotless documentation of workflows and processes.
- Improving our systems’ production posture via targeted observability and operability enhancements (telemetry, alerting, incident management (including On-Call for the service), change management, safe production changes).
- Building reusable automation to empower multiple teams to achieve their reliability goals.
- Influencing the product architecture and roadmap to make sure the customer-experienced reliability is always a key consideration when evolving the product.
- Cultivate a partnership with application engineers and architects and acquire a good grasp of the infrastructure architecture of different applications.
- Oversee and adapt monitoring and alerting systems
- Mentor other engineers on SRE principles, practices, and tools developed by your team.
- Provide impact assessment and mitigation plan for changes going into the production environment
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with minimum 6 years of experience
- This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
Technical Expertise:
- Demonstrated experience in defining and implementing an observability framework for web applications.
- Prior experience as a Devops, SRE, or systems engineer is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with configuring, customizing, and operating monitoring tools (e.g. NewRelic, AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, ELK stack, Splunk).
- 3+ years of experience working with managed services in either Azure and or AWS.
- 3+ years of experience supporting and developing large-scale, highly available distributed systems.
- Solid understanding of containerized services, cloud-based development patterns and deployment strategies.
- Prior experience using orchestration and infrastructure-as-code tools such as: Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Chef, Rancher is a plus
- experience using programming languages such as C#, C++, Java, Python, Go, Ruby and scripting such as PowerShell or Bash is a plus
- Exposure to problem management, root cause analysis, post-mortem processes within ITIL framework is desired.
- Proactively engages with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and design solutions using critical thinking and analytics skills and best practices by actively incorporating input from various sources
- Strong analytical and strong problem solving skills - effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve
