OVERVIEW
Sentry Insurance is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our organization on our Server and Storage Administration team. The ideal candidate will utilize DevOps technology to manage a Linux server environment.
In this role, you will assist with the installation and support of systems hardware and/or software.
Our team supports 6000+ servers residing in the Cloud and On-Premise, comprised of Linux, Microsoft, and ESXi VMware host servers. You will follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations and troubleshooting problems. You will assist in the planning and deployment of large scale system projects. Additionally, you will assist in the development of technical standards, maintain applications, and evaluate new products and vendors. This position can be filled as a Systems Engineer or Senior Systems Engineer depending on the selected candidate's related experience and qualifications.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Server Engineer you’ll:
• Support 6000+ servers comprised of Red Hat, CentOS, and Microsoft Windows servers.
• Utilize DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and scripting tools to automate operational engineering tasks
• Automate and integrate on premise server environments with Cloud base server environments
• Work with cutting edge technology pertaining to server and storage hardware, software, and automation application suites
• Leverage AWS and VMware to support a large virtual server environment
• Assist with application and database platform teams in design, delivery, troubleshooting, and performance tuning for database and application servers
• Participate in the integration of the server environment with networking equipment and SAN storage arrays
• Participate in the design and improvement of current server configuration management and automation capabilities
WHAT IT TAKES
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience, or related work experience
• Experience with Server administration or operating systems administration experience.
• AWS, Cloud management, and\or Container Management experience a plus
• Experience with design, administration, and troubleshooting of VMWare environments.
• Scripting/programming experience with languages such as PowerShell, Ruby, Python, or YAML a plus
• Design, administration, and troubleshooting of Windows servers and Red Hat Linux servers is required
• Experience in designing, planning, and implementing systems technology in multiple areas such as server systems, PC’s, networks, mainframe, voice communications, and storage is required.
• Ability to work on-call on a rotational basis. This will include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
• Strong technical, analytical and communication skills
