Wärtsilä's Energy Storage & Optimisation Team is looking for a CYBER SECURITY DEVOPS ENGINEER to join our growing software team Our development center is located in Herndon, VA, USA, however this position offers remote work for candidates who are located within the USA.
This role will focus on information security, data engineering and security application/services development. We are building a well-rounded team of security-focused systems and application engineers to derive insights about our attack surface, analyze our adversaries, and building solutions to counter them to minimize risk and deliver better security outcomes for our group. What will you be doing?
As a CYBER SECURITY DEVOPS ENGINEER, you will develop a security center of excellence; help build, secure, and document our Zero-Trust Kubernetes cloud-based mission-critical production environments and tooling hosting environment and work cross-functionally with several teams: product development, management, QA, business unit security teams, and sometimes customers to drive forward results.
The ideal candidate has a B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Mechanical), or I.T., or equivalent.

As a CYBER SECURITY DEVOPS ENGINEER , you will focus on these responsibilities:
- Develop a security center of excellence.
- Help build, secure, and document our Zero-Trust Kubernetes cloud-based mission-critical production environments and tooling hosting environment.
- Expand our infrastructure-as-code architecture to help automate processes and expand security quality across the applications in a repeatable way.
- Design, prototype and develop security applications and integrations supporting the data processing, analytics, and visualization needs of our adversary management capabilities.
- Deploy and configure our Linux-based power plant controllers.
- Configure IPSec (site to site) and SSL/TLS (client) VPNs for new and existing projects.
- Work with third-party software compliance groups to certify our next-generation hardware and cloud platform.
- Gather functional requirements, develop technical specifications, and build prototypes and proofs of concepts (POC's).
- Strong implementation aptitude to translate objectives into a scalable solution to meet the needs of the end customer while meeting deadlines.
- Work cross-functionally with several teams: product development, management, QA, business unit security teams, and sometimes customers to drive forward results.
- Communicate with our project delivery team and customer network engineers to help solve issues.
- Expertise developing and using infrastructure-as-code (Ansible, Terraform, etc.) tools for software deployment and OS configuration.
- 3+ years expertise configuring and managing Linux-based environments.
- 3+ years hands-on experience with at least one scripting language (Bash, Shell, Power Shell, etc.)
- 3+ years hands-on experience with at least one programming language (Python, Ruby, Go, etc.)
- Experience building and using Docker.
- Knowledge of authentication, authorization, and encryption schemes.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networks and experience configuring network equipment such as switches, routers, and firewalls.
- Experience working in an agile development environment using common tools such as JIRA and Git.
- Ability to embrace a fast-moving environment and comfortable with quickly adapting to changing priorities.
- Experience with offensive security tools is a plus.
- Experience with network discovery and application fingerprinting is a plus.
- Knowledge in configuring and deploying to a Kubernetes cluster is a plus.
- Knowledge and/or interest in electrical concepts, power grids, renewable or green energy is a plus.
