The Digital Technologies team is seeking a DevOps Engineer, Middleware Specialist, to join them. The engineer will be responsible for implementing, integrating, and providing support for middleware software in a multi-tiered, multi-platform environment. Responsible for installation, configuration, automation, and support of middleware solutions.
This role is part of a team focusing on DevOps enablement in a heterogeneous eco-system containing web/application servers, middleware, CI/CD pipelines, supporting tools, and automation. Responsibilities of this role include a mix of supporting existing application environments, as well as designing and building new application environments. The role is part of the on-call product support rotation schedule. The candidate must possess a strong set of troubleshooting and analytical skills, as well as the ability to independently research and resolve technical problems while collaborating with application and infrastructure teams. Install, configure and support knowledge for J2EE middleware such as Red Hat Fuse, Red Hat AMQ, Websphere, Jboss EAP, and Apache web server is required. Understanding of automation tools such as Puppet, Ansible, and/or Jenkins is required. Kubernetes/AWS and Apache Kafka/AWS-MSK are desired.
The candidate must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders, and drive efforts to completion with minimal direction. Responsibilities
Install, configure, maintain, patch, and support Red Hat Fuse and AMQ
Install, configure, maintain, patch, and support Web Sphere 9 and/or JBoss EAP 7.x
Install, configure, maintain, patch, and support Apache webserver
Configure, maintain, execute and support scripts on Redhat Linux and Solaris servers and bash shell scripting
Coordinate middleware tasks with systems that use middleware and built using technologies such as SpringBoot, Fuse, AMQ, etc
Design and implement automation procedures for configuration, patching, and upgrading of systems and applications
Configure and tune application server parameters for optimal system performance.
Install, configure and maintain monitoring tools such as AppDynamics
Configure and optimize JVM for best performance and availability; i.e. Garbage Collection, Tuning, etc
Plan capacity of middleware platforms and implement capacity increases as needed
Document designs, configurations, and work plans
Work closely with software engineering (development), network, infrastructure, DBA, and other teams to design, implement and support the applications
Provide on-call support on a rotational basis
Required qualification, skills, and experience
In-depth, hands-on experience in install, configure, patch and support Red Hat Fuse and Red Hat AMQ infrastructure and a good understanding of AMQ architecture
Hands-on experience with installation and configuration of Websphere or JBOSS application server, and Apache webserver
Hands-on experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Puppet (preferred), Chef, Ansible, Rundeck, Jenkins, and/or related tools.
Hands-on experience with executing scripts and independently performing troubleshooting on Linux and/or Unix (RHEL/Solaris) operating systems
Knowledge of how load-balancers such as Netscaler or F5 appliances work (configuration experience for this not required)
Understanding of the JVM and how it operates and optimizing it for best performance and availability; i.e. Garbage Collection, Tuning, etc
Knowledge of Apache Kafka, Amazon AWS-MSK, Terraform, and Kubernetes
Familiarity with enabling DevOps for systems developed with SpringBoot, Fuse, etc.
Understanding of configuration management concepts and tools, and how to use them.
Strong troubleshooting skills and experience in coordination of troubleshooting with other teams
Ability to create effective technical documentation
Effective communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) with various levels of stakeholders from developers to senior management
The willingness and ability to quickly learn new technologies
