We have the unique and significant role to partner with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC), to be part of every human spaceflight program – the International Space Station (ISS), NASA’s Orion spacecraft, which will carry astronauts into deep space, and Gateway, the orbiting platform providing the home for astronauts to work and travel back and forth to the moon’s surface, and serving as the platform for deep space exploration. From critical systems on the ISS to enable astronauts to live and work in space; to performing advanced development for systems leading to deep space exploration; to being part of the foundation for Gateway.
We also partner with NASA at JSC, the only NASA center in the United States to curate all astromaterial samples returned from exploration missions, to perform curation services, orbital debris analysis, and basic research to further humankind’s understanding of the origins of our solar system.
What you’ll do all day
  • Report directly to the Electronics and Electrical Section Manager as part of group of over 60 other Electronics and Electrical Engineers.
  • Provide FPGA code Verification and Validation support of Avionics development in the Robotics Systems NASA Engineering Division.
  • Work directly with Team Lead and associated Electrical Engineers on a given project.
  • Provide expertise in software test process and practice.
  • Work with FPGA developers to perform functional and verification testing of flight FPGA code.
  • Configure, maintain, and configuration manage, and document software tools to support FPGA code V&V.
  • Generate, maintain, and report on related documentation.
  • Generate and maintain procedures.
  • Work in a team environment, and report to project manager for technical support, task assignment, and processes.
  • Perform job functions in a laboratory environment, following pre-established guidelines or instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Work with electrical and mechanical technicians to build and test designed systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair existing test systems.
  • Develop detailed test verification procedures.
  • Perform other tasks assigned.

Minimum requirements for this position:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and zero (0) years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of software or HDL testing.
  • Working knowledge of Jenkins, Docker, Git, SVN, and Linux.
  • Experience with shell scripting, Python.
  • Self-motivated, team player with adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
  • Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work with others in problem solving as part of a team.
  • Proficient in MS Office programs, particularly MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote and Outlook.
  • MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN.
Requisition Preferences:
  • DevOps experience.
  • Version control and release management experience.
  • VHDL or Verilog development and test experience.
  • HDL test suite experience.
  • Experience in Spaceflight software or HDL testing and verification & validation.
