Position Summary
TaxAct, a subsidiary of Blucora and sister company to Avantax Wealth Management and Avantax Planning Partners is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer that will be responsible for designing, building, and supporting the processes and systems needed to drive our continuous integration environment as well as the systems to deploy, manage, and monitor our production workloads.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Manage all components in the full stack and assist with building out server automation across the entire infrastructure.
Solve technical problems and make improvements to our systems, which includes deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
Build tools for our internal use to improve and support our build and deploy process.
Improve automated deployments, monitoring, management, and incident response.
Develop infrastructure and configuration as code.
Perform troubleshooting of both application and infrastructure issues.
Ensure critical systems, applications, and services are always up and running by monitoring, gathering, and analyzing data from different network sources.
Serving as a DevOps subject matter expert for the organization and mentoring team members on DevOps principles.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree with a major course of study in Computer Science or Information Technology preferred. (10yrs relative experience).
Working knowledge of high-level programming languages e.g. C#, C, C++, Java a plus.
Demonstratable knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Powershell, Bash, NodeJS, Ruby, etc.
Key AWS concepts – EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC, ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, Redis, API Gateway.
5+ years experience building, deploying, and monitoring web-scale systems, with in-depth knowledge of infrastructure automation in the AWS environment.
AWS Certification Solution Architect – Professional is preferred, minimum of Associate.
5+ Experience working in a Microsoft environment e.g. Windows Server, MS Visual Studio, TFS, IIS Web Server, and MS SQL Server.
3+ years of experience with Linux system administration (RHEL or CentOS preferred).
Ability to design and implement process automation using scripting languages e.g. PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.
Demonstrated experience setting up and managing a continuous integration/continuous deployment environment.
Experience with release management & deployment tools like AWS Code Pipeline, Cloud Formation, AWS Code Deploy, etc.
Solid understanding of zero-downtime deployments and fast rollback strategies.
Experience with monitoring systems using tools like DataDog, CloudWatch, Splunk, and writing health checks.
Experience with network theory e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, MAC addresses, IP packets, DNS, OSI layers, and load balancing.
Experience with performance optimization, monitoring, log management, and alerting tools.
Experience with Agile Development and Scrum methodologies.
Working knowledge of high-level programming languages e.g. C#, C, C++, Java a plus.
Demonstratable knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Powershell, Bash, NodeJS, Ruby, etc.
