What is the opportunity?

As the Senior Director, Infrastructure Development and Automation, you will hold a critical role focused on leading the team of infrastructure developers and automation engineers to deliver infrastructure technology services as code (IaC), define and mature test automation framework(s), build infrastructure integration platform(s) and enable automation capabilities of our infrastructure stacks and services. In this role you will provide leadership and guidance to establishing infrastructure automation roadmaps, drive and align TI automation priorities and work collaboratively with TI partners and within T&O to enable strategic outcomes and customer value.

An ideal candidate will have experience in DevOps practices and toolchain, modern development languages and techniques, infrastructure technology stacks, infrastructure provisioning and configuration automation tools and practices and be able to push the limits of the technology and development.

The candidate must have a balance of technical expertise related to app development, infrastructure provisioning and configuration management, data ecosystems, operational processes and the tools / capabilities within it. This role is strategic and transformational in nature and has a high level of complexity that requires expertise in dealing with sophisticated set of problems solved through business and technical approaches.

What will you do?
  • Push the limits of software-defined, infrastructure as code and automation to enable TI strategy and transformation
  • Work in collaboration with TI and enterprise partners to drive strategic value through development mindset to push software-defined limits and enable Infrastructure as code and automation products, practices and methodologies, to drive speed and efficiencies, and improve our customer experience.
  • Work anywhere in the technical stack, delivering high quality code and architecture both on the frontend and backend. Build upon, maintain, and own codebases that connect our hardware and software to TI customers and internal systems. Utilize extensive experience in rapid prototyping and interface design testing
  • Manage a broad portfolio of diverse technology teams and projects to provide web, API and integration solutions and push the limits of our technology by suggesting new integrations, frameworks, and languages to best serve our customers and our operational/SRE teams.
  • You will manage single pane of glass for TI automation and Infrastructure as code (IaC) efforts and work with architecture to establish automation/IaC capabilities and partner with product management on delivery prioritization to improve customer journeys.
  • Advocate the use of technology and break silos to achieve the ‘One RBC’ promise
  • Set and maintain infrastructure development standards, center(s) of software excellence, and common best practices to ensure consistency in TI’s automation approaches. Own and deliver the technical roadmap for TI in line with the vision and business requirements. Assess and recommend build versus buy decisions.
  • Dedicate time and resource to advance TI Development standards and community of Practice (CoP). Work closely with RBC Developer community at large and assist in building collaborative culture to harness the power of the community to drive value at the enterprise level.
  • Work to gain consensus, influence, and ensure cross-functional participation. Collaborate closely with technology partners to improve efficiency, scale and time-to-market by leveraging global architecture/engineering.
  • Attract the best talent and make TI synonymous with innovation, software excellence, and agility
  • You will manage a team of both leaders and infrastructure developers responsible for the successful implementation and support of solutions that drive business growth and improve operational efficiencies through automation.
  • You will develop IaC and automation solutions, leveraging modern development, languages and industry vendor solutions to accelerate value to RBC technology partners and business. You will drive orchestration and automation innovation across the TI and identify areas of automation and IaC that will allow us to innovate continuously.
  • You will work closely with the recruitment team to attract and recruit the industry’s best talent and develop a team of engineers to continuously improve, through coaching, mentoring & management support.
  • You will actively lead and participate in RBC sponsored developer and student events to create opportunities for talent acquisition, growth and advocacy of RBC as a development ecosystem.
What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • 8+ years of experience in software development and automation
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams
  • 3+ years of experience in design and building infrastructure as code and automation solutions
  • Drive the interaction with internal and organizational partners to define, design, and develop solutions to infrastructure technology and services automation problems.
  • Agile way of working (Scrum, Kanban, SafeAgile
  • Strong knowledge of design, development, and implementation experience utilizing automation, provisioning configuration management technologies (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, etc.) and API development.
Nice to Have:
  • Understanding of business process automation and RPA
  • Observability and monitoring for infrastructure and applications technologies
