We're seeking a Sr. DevOps Engineer to join our growing team and help us build modern, observable, secure and repeatable infrastructure for our new platform in the cloud. Reporting to our Director of Infrastructure, you'll help architect, implement, deploy, and monitor this new cloud-based platform which will host apps to serve healthcare professional jobseekers as well as internal users. This is a brand-new platform so there is a lot of scope to make a large impact on the overall solution by joining at this early stage.

Responsibilities
  • Provision infrastructure and solutions on the cloud in a repeatable manner using infrastructure as code tools such as Hashicorp Terraform and configuration management tools.
  • Build and maintain CI / CD pipelines to allow for the automated testing and release of changes using open-source solutions like Jenkins or managed solutions like CircleCI, TravisCI or Github Actions.
  • Architect solutions in the cloud for hosting highly available web applications and APIs at scale using containers or higher-level abstractions.
  • Be part of the team to architect and build solutions to support a modern data architecture in the cloud.
  • Spearhead the effort to ensure that new code being deployed is observable and deploy monitoring and alerting solutions to allow for reliable operation of this code.
  • Cross-team collaboration with our infrastructure, engineering, and QA teams to improve the speed, efficacy, and output of testing methodologies along with improvements to deployment of our code.
Qualifications
  • Commercial experience architecting and building enterprise solutions with one or more major public cloud providers (Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Excellent knowledge of networking concepts - we don't expect to know the OSI layer model off by heart, but we expect you to understand routing, firewalls, protocols, VPCs, DNS, VPNs, etc.
  • Security-minded - you understand the principles of least privilege and the segregation of functions to allow for secure systems. Understanding of encryption and key management.
  • Commercial experience using containers (Docker) and Kubernetes (k8s) using GKE, AKS, EKS or home rolled. You should understand what pods, services, ingresses are and how to use kubectl to interact with them.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible / Chef / Puppet for instances where we are not using containers.
  • Experience with relational SQL databases (preferably PostgreSQL) at both a developer level (query writing) and an operator level (backups, replication, encryption).
  • Very familiar with and comfortable with Linux and the command line.
  • Skill with a programming language for scripting and automation purposes (Python, bash, etc.).
  • Experience building logging, monitoring, and alerting solutions using either open-source solutions or commercial tools.
  • Have a passion for automation vs. manual work!
